Tellor is a decentralized oracle protocol that serves as the source of truth for off-chain data on blockchain networks. Founded in 2019, Tellor was built by a small core team who identified the absence of a truly decentralized oracle when building DeFi derivatives products. Rather than rely on existing centralized or pseudo-decentralized solutions with dubious security assumptions, the team pivoted to build an open, permissionless oracle protocol secured by crypto-economic incentives.
Tellor operates as a Layer 1 blockchain (Tellor Layer, chain-id: tellor-1) built specifically for coming to consensus on any subjective data. The protocol is powered by TRB (Tellor Tributes), its native token, which underpins staking, reporting incentives, governance, and dispute resolution.
Key products include:
Tellor differentiates itself from traditional oracle middleware by producing data directly through its network of reporters rather than relaying from centralized APIs. The protocol is fully permissionless — anyone can participate as a validator, reporter, or user without gatekeeping. Its crypto-economic design (staking, slashing, dispute mechanisms) ensures data integrity without reliance on a trusted party.
Unlike feed-aggregator oracles, Tellor supports custom data types, allowing developers to define novel queries that no other oracle can fulfill. The network is designed for censorship resistance: no single entity can shut it down.
Tellor Layer is built on the Cosmos SDK, enabling a purpose-built chain for oracle consensus with a light client bridge for relaying data to EVM chains across multiple networks.
Tellor provides oracle infrastructure to DeFi protocols and blockchain applications requiring secure, decentralized price feeds and custom data. The protocol serves builders across Ethereum, Base, and SagaEVM mainnets, as well as Sepolia testnet.
Tellor is the benchmark for decentralized truth — not middleware that abstracts centralized sources. For developers building DeFi applications, cross-chain protocols, or any system requiring tamper-resistant off-chain data, Tellor provides an open, auditable, and economically secured oracle layer. Its support for custom query types means it can fulfill data needs that no other oracle protocol supports.
